Damian Lillard Unveils His 1st Signature Shoe With adidas On Instagram!

Last night, Portland Trailblazer and NBA All-Star point guard, Damian Lillard, shook cyberspace, sneaker and adidas fans by unveiling his first signature shoe thru his #4BarFriday video.

With his contract with adidas being renewed after two strong seasons, adidas has Dame locked in a long-term partnership that could potentially extend to ten years and could be worth over $100 million including incentives.

A signature line was inevitable. After getting a few exclusives under his belt (adidas Real Deal "Rookie of the Year" and Crazy 1 "Floral City" PEs) and almost single handedly and unofficially 'endorsed' a myriad of adidas D Rose signature shoes in the absence of D Rose, Dame has proven he can move and sell sneakers and is worthy enough to be a face of a new signature collection with the brand.

This is what Dame had to say on his Instagram post:

"Got a special #4BarFriday for y'all. Probably not supposed to do this, but I can't keep it from y'all any longer. Preview of my first ever signature shoe: The@adidashoops #DLillard1...coming soon! Shout out to everyone that has helped my dreams come true. And let me know what y'all think. #teamadidas #threestripelife"

The sneaker community had mixed emotions on the design of the sneaker, getting comparisons to a certain Bulls legend's 3rd signature shoe from the 80s and a certain player from South Beach with a Chinese brand.

One thing is for sure though, the adidas D Lillard 1 is a welcomed change and a bold move in terms of design  for adidas.

Basing from the picture unveiled by Dame, it seems that it will have a bootie type inner with the tongue embedded in it. His "DL" logo can be seen at the heel while speckle prints can be seen on the midsole and is finished off with a camo type print on the outsole.

Set for a 2015 release, adidas will have three point guards with signature lines by next year and a stable of point guards on the rise. The league and the game of basketball is indeed a guards game now.

Stay tuned for more news!
