adidas, I want BOOST on my Pro Models!!!

The adidas Pro Model, a window to the rich heritage of adidas basketball, with its continuous production and different reiteration over the years, has stood the test of times.

adidas Originals Pro Model
Originally produced back in the late 1960s, it hit the courts of the NBA as one of the 60s and 70s go to basketball shoes and over the decades has been an icon on the streets.  With its low cut cousin, the adidas Superstar, the adidas Pro Model was a performance footwear, with a herringbone pattern, providing excellent traction, that can still hold its ground and go toe to toe with modern basketball shoes, leather upper for durability and added class and lastly the iconic Shelltoes, made of rubber for added support and durability. Thanks also to a group of young men from Hollis, Queens, New York, the iconic Shelltoes and adidas were taken into greater heights increasing its popularity in the 80s, adidas was represented on and off the court.

NBA Legend and All-Time Scoring Leader, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and the legendary rap group Run-D.M.C.

Over the years, its shape and size have changed. It's been modified to accommodate the needs of modern basketball, most renditions had adiPrene cushioning, FitFoam insoles, Torsion System for support and an array of different colorways to match school/team colors.

It is relatively one of the most dependable and durable shoe ever made. The modern version, built like a tank, is a favourite among ballers on the blacktop and the wooden floors. And with the direction of modern basketball shoes making a shift towards the lightweight era (thank you adidas adiZero Crazy Light!), the Pro Models complied with the Pro Model 0 and Pro Model 0 II.

adidas hit gold with the Pro Model line. Its an icon. A piece of history. A fashion statement. And now they have a new diamond in the rough. An innovation. The game changer. BOOST foam. Traditional soles uses a one piece foam set up. BOOST uses individual pellets (more than 2000 TPU pellets as claimed by an adidas Sales Personnel). "These little capsules are molded together, and they retain their normal properties better than any material out there, they're able to absorb energy, and then unleash energy at a consistent rate, over and over." - James Carnes, adidas Head of Design for Sport. Performance

adidas Basketball has been banking on EVA as their main foam set up and cushioning. But this coming season we'll be seeing an innovation with the placement of BOOST foam on the basketball line, banking on the success of BOOST with its launch on the running line.

Now, as a big fan of both the Pro Model and BOOST technology, I would love to see adidas apply BOOST foam on its Pro Model line. Forget about lightweight and quickness (surely not all the players on the court play by the #quickaintfair or #fastdontlie motto), some players want the old school look and feel of a basketball shoe that stands for durability and quality, which is the traditional Pro Model. adidas has always had a great thing working for them with the Pro Model line, it's only fitting that we see an updated pair with BOOST tooling.
