Andrew Wiggins signs with adidas!!!

adidas made a big splash in the sneaker industry by signing NBA no. 1 draft pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Canadian, Andrew Wiggins. adidas was also notable for signing fellow draftee, Dante Exum, out of Australia who was picked 5th by the Utah Jazz.

This comes as to no surprise as Andrew Wiggins donned adidas after a stint with the Kansas Jayhawks, an adidas sponsored program. Though the deal is not as lucrative as the reported $180 million offer myth, Wiggins is expected to make $2M a year over a 5 years contract.

This is a win for both adidas and Wiggins. After signing a stable of point guards on the rise, adidas is in need of an exceptional wing player to take them to further heights, as wing players tends to be more marketable as compared to big men. Wiggins on the other hand, being a rookie and having so much expectations on his shoulders fits perfectly with adidas as he can make a name for himself and stand out (maybe his own sig after a strong rookie and sophomore season, but that's thinking way ahead of ourselves) and by pass the stable of names that the other brand has on line still wearing PEs. With a Canadian and an Australian going as high as no. 1 and 5 in the draft, adidas hits gold as they continue to make a name for their rich basketball program internationally. Add that to Jeremy Lin (Taiwanese-American), Nicolas Batum (France), Danilo Gallinari (Italy) and Ricky Rubio (Spain) to a roster of players that have international appeal.
