@adidasHoops
August is the best month of the year! It's my birth month. And my birthday happens to be a national holiday. But there's something else I'm looking forward to other than my birthday this August.
BOOST!!!
Boost is coming to adidas basketball. After a successful launch with the adidas running line, Boost is finally branching out to other sports. We've seen the application of Boost on baseball, tennis, trainers (these need to release locally!!!) and now basketball.
The first time I ever put on Boost on my feet, I wanted to run out the store in them. It just felt unreal. On that particular day, I was walking around in my daily beaters, my legs a bit fatigued. When I tried on a pair, my feet felt so relaxed as if I just started the day. To know more about Boost here's a description from Counterkicks:
The material adidas is using here to provide both cushioning and energy return is TPU, more commonly seen as the plastic reinforcement you’d find on heel counters or used as a broader foot casing like with adidas SprintFrame. But of course stepping on that as is wouldn’t be too comfortable.
Over the last few years, adidas worked with German chemical company BASF to inflate and “blow up” TPU into what they’re calling “thousands of small energy capsules” which captures energy on impact and releases that energy back in a highly efficient way compared to current shoe foam standard-bearer EVA. 2,500 individual pieces of these energy capsules are steamed together in the debut adidas Energy Boost shoe to comprise the midsole.
This new Boost material is also three times more climate and temperature resistant than typical EVA, won’t bottom out anywhere near as fast as EVA, and finally has the highest energy return properties of any shoe currently out in the running industry, all according to adidas’ own testing.
For a more visual description and how Boost compares to other cushioning set up, check out the video below:
adidas Basketball, for years, has been banking on adiPrene, adiPrene+ and variations of EVA as its major cushioning set up. Its nice to finally see a 'revolution' and a breakthrough that they can finally call their own by introducing a new foam based cushioning set up. It won't be as if you're walking on 'air' but as my sister describes it, (yes, I have converted my sister by buying her a pair of Energy Boost) it's as if you've got 'pillows and marshmallows on your feet'. Over the past week, @adidasHoops has been teasing the public with their basketball athletes about boost CHANGES EVERYTHING

Now, for the good stuff. adidas may have been teasing us of application of Boost on the basketball line but sites such as Counterkicks, Solecollector and Weartesters has got a hold of images of the coming line. We'll be seeing Boost applied to Crazy Light line, now being dubbed as adidas Crazy Light Boost:
